GALWAY TOUR

Our tour starts with a short cycle through Cappagh Park which leads us to Barna Woods. Known locally for being a nature hot spot, we can admire its attractive woodland before arriving at our fabulous local beach, Silverstrand. This blue flag awarded beach overlooks the world renowned, Galway Bay and the hills of the Burren and the Aran Islands in the distance. Depending on the tide, we can take time here to stroll the white sand whilst breathing in the fresh ocean air.

We then proceed along the “Wild Atlantic Way” for a few kms, arriving at Salthill’s iconic bathing site, Blackrock. Here, we can choose to have a dip, dare to jump from the diving boards or simply relax, grab a coffee and watch the fun. Then we’ll make our way to the city via the coast road and Nimmo’s Pier, taking in the sights around the famous Spanish Arch and the “Long Walk”. From here, we’ll explore the many waterways that surround Galway Cathedral and Nuns’ Island, before cycling along the River Corrib as far as Menlo Castle, which is a beautiful old ruin situated on the banks. Our return trip takes a high road which provides us with majestic views of Galway Bay.

Throughout the trip, I’ll provide you with short little pieces of information, nothing too longwinded, but enough to whet your appetite to find out more about our wonderful city.

And, never mind the weather! You’ll be sure to have an adventure to remember, regardless.

Points to note:

Guests should be comfortable riding a bike on roads with traffic.

CONNEMARA TOUR

Our tour starts from a narrow country lane which soon provides us with a wonderful view of Galway Bay with the hills of the Burrenand the Aran Islands in the distance. Our cycle continues along these country lanes for the duration of the tour whilst enjoying a relatively traffic free journey that affords us the time to soak up the panoramic views.

On a gravel trail at one of the wind parks of Connemara, we can put the bikes to the test! Here, we pass by bogs where turf is still cut by hand as fuel for the winter, a tradition that is in danger of being lost. The cutting edge technology of the majestic turbines that tower sky high are in sharp contrast to the simple turf cutting that takes place around them. The hills and mountains before us, the boggy, rugged landscape, the water all around, be it sea, lake or river are the hallmarks of magical Connemara.

Our arrival into Spiddal village marks the halfway point of our tour and places us in “The Gaeltacht”, an area where the Irish language is spoken widely. Here, we can enjoy some leisure time, a stroll along the strand or a coffee in the craft village. If you’re feeling particularly brave, try a dip in the ocean!

Our return journey takes us back via the country lanes and bog roads, again at a leisurely pace. Hopefully, we’ll be able to chat about your experience and answer questions you may have en route.

This will be a truly memorable trip, one to cherish.
